Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My girlfriend and I had unprotected sex a day after she finished her menstrual period and she took postinor 2 few hours later now she think she is pregnant because she is falling sick and she said she fills the lower part of her abdomen is hard and also slight pains. (Its just three weeks we had this unprotected sex). Please what are the chances that she is pregnant?
Hi. Good to see your concerns for health. Lets discuss some basic physiology of the reproductive system. Ovulation (release of egg in female) occurs exactly 14 day before the start of menstrual bleeding no matter the how much long the cycle is. Also the egg remains viable in female reproductive system for a period of 24-48 hours unless it is fertilized. A single egg is released every month. Also the sperms remain viable in female reproductive system for about a day. Keeping in view these basic fact, it is highly unlikely (probability almost approaching to zero) for her to become pregnant at this stage of menstrual cycle. So i suggest you to stay assured. If you are too much worried, you can confirm by having a pregnancy test after a week. Wishing you and your loved ones the best of health. Regards
