Is Pregnancy Possible Despite Being On Birth Control Pills?

Hi I m an 18 year old girl. My last period started Dec 17 and ended the 22nd. I had unprotected sex on the 30th and yes he did ejaculate in me. I WAS on birth control but that same week, I had messed it up (took it all different times of the time and skipped one day because I lost one pill). I noticed on my period calendar that I was fertile the day I had sex and two days later I d be ovulating. The day after or two days after we had sex, I stopped taking my birth control. Ever since maybe a week after sex, I ve been having lots of symptoms such as nausea (no committing), dizzy soemtimes, major neck/back pain, headaches, and my stomach feels weird. A week and a half after sex, I started spotting on a Sunday then Monday-Wednesday heavy bleeding and then it stopped (but all at once, not little by little like a usual period plus my periods always last 6 days). It has now been 3 weeks since I had sex and yes, I m 5 days late from when my period was suppose to happen. I chugged some water then two hours later, took a pregnancy test and it was negative. Can it be wrong? I think I m going to retest in the morning..

Hello,

I can understand your concern. As you were on birth control pills and getting repeated negative pregnancy tests, we can rule out pregnancy as a cause of period irregularity. However, I agree with you to take one more test with the morning undiluted urine.

As you stopped birth control pills in the mid-cycle, what you experienced of 2-3 days bleeding was your breakthrough bleeding after stopping pills. It happened because the hormonal levels changed due to stopping the pills. Now your menstrual cycle is also changed. So in case you are not pregnant and not planning to taking birth control pills again, you can expect periods according to the new date next month.

I hope this answers your question. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Let me know if you have any follow up questions.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
