Is Poor Appetite A Side Effect Of Amoxicillin?

I was taking amoxicillin for a sinus infection. Quit taking it after 4 days because it was bothering my stomach. That was 4 days ago. Still cannot eat much and my stomach is still hurting? Is this because I stopped the medication? YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Any antibiotic when consumed destroys normal intestinal flora (lactobacilli).

This leads to loss of appetite & also facilitates intestinal infection by pathogenic organisms to cause intestinal pains off & on. Replacement of lactobacillus preparation over the counter is an answer to the problem.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
