Is Partial Rupture Of The Achilles Tendon A Cause For Concern?

Hello, my husband was kicked on the aquiles tendon two months ago and they diagnosed partial rupture. He was in a boot for 3 weeks. His foot is still swollen and get worse during the day, the doctor says it normal and that it takes time. I am worried because I see it very swollen and a dark purple color. What should he do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Partial tear of Achilles tendon should stabilize by 3 weeks.
However, symptoms might continue for few more weeks as it takes about 6 weeks to heal completely. Normal activities can only be resumed on confirmation by means of examination and investigations by about 3 months.
What treatment has been advised by the doctor needs to be followed properly to get the desired outcome.
Kindly follow the suggestions as given by your doctor and do necessary follow-up from time to time.
Gradually, he should recover from it over a period of time.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
