Is Pain In Knees After An Injury An Indication Of Fracture?

Hello .I was playing football a couple of weeks ago and fell quite heavily on my knee. There was immediate swelling and discomfort, this lasted for a couple of days. The swelling has now gone and there is on minor pain when I bend my leg or apply pressure on it. Also there seems to be a large dent in the middle of my kneecap now. Is it possible to dent or is it more likely to be a break/fracture?
