Is Memory Loss After A General Anesthesia Common?

Is memory loss (a week or more) after general anesthesia common? My husband had hernia surgery a week ago,and has been more forgetful then usual on a few occasions since then. Forgetting, not just tiny details, but rather significant things that have surprised me. I am concerned -should I be?
