Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had mastoiditis several years ago. Can it reoccur? I have a slight pain in both my ears alot and the area behind my skull hurts. It took forever for them to find what was wrong with me the last time. I went to an ENT, the ER and my then PCP. I had blood draining from my ear, but did not have an inter ear infection that I was aware of. I had bad ear aches as a child.
Hello and welcome to HCM, A history of mastoiditis and pain in both ears especially behind the ears suggests a recurrent mastoid inflammation. The skull bone behind the ears is called mastoid bone. Mastoiditis can recur if the cells of the mastoid remain infected. The clinical features are suggestive of unsafe ear. Unsafe ear is an inflammation of the ear wherein the mastoid is inflamed. Management of mastoiditis is clearance of all the air cells of the mastoid. A history of blood draining from the ear is also suggestive of mastoiditis. I suggest you to consult an ENT specialist at the earliest for clinical assessment and thus management.
