Is Level Of 3.1 In PSA Test A Cause For Concern?

Yes I had a recent physical and a psa test and it showed a level of 3.1. I did not have the physical prostate exam. The doctor wants me to come back in immediately because it was up from 3 years ago when I had a psa. My sugar was up also but I told the nurse I have been drinking tart cherry juice everyday for arthritis.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
PSA level above 4 is considered to be abnormal. It is a screening test to detect prostate cancer. Its levels does not differentiate between cancerous and noncancerous cause of enlargement of prostate.
However, in your case, since it is showing an increased trend as compared to your previous report, you need to get your prostate examined clinically as well as through ultrasound scan to know about its status.
Kindly consult Urologist in this regard for proper evaluation and management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
