Is It Safe To Take Valtrex For Herpes In An Elderly Person?
My 89 year old mother had Herpes Encephelitis two years ago and I am concerned that she is not on ANY antiviral medication. I have asked doctors if she should be on Valtres and they say, because of her age no. I thought Valtrex is harmless, I have been taking it for 30 years

Thanks for contacting HCM. Valtrex in the elderly can cause renal impairment so for that reason she is not on valtrex.
