Is It Safe To Take Cerelle And Norethisterone At The Same Time?

Is it safe to take cerelle and norethisterone at the same time? I want to delay my period starting in a few days and also use oral contraceptive to prevent pregnancy next week (it is the first time I have used the pill). If I start using cerelle now will it delay my period and prevent pregnancy or will I need to take norethisterone as well?

Hello,

Cerelle is a contraceptive pill to be taken everyday. Periods stop altogether with this pill for some, whereas for others their periods may continue but slowly become lighter and less frequent. The pill controls the female hormones and stops the thickening of the lining of the uterus (womb), so implantation can't take.

However, if you forget to take Cerelle for more than 10 hours then you are no longer protected you should use condoms. Do not forget to take Cerelle. It is to be taken every day at the same time. If you take Cerelle as instructed in the leaflet, your periods will be delayed. But if you vomit or have diarrhea, the efficacy of the medicine will get reduced. You will start bleeding a day or two after you stop taking Norethisterone. Norethisterone is also used to prevent pregnancy.

You can take any one of the medicine that suits you. If you want to delay periods you can take Norethisterone but if you want long term protection then you will have to take any contraceptive pills of your choice that suits you.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
