Is It Safe To Switch From Nortriptyline To Risperidone For An Elderly Woman?

My mother who is 79 years old has been on Amytryptoline for over 35 years and her doctor changed it 3 months ago to Nortryptoline but now is wanting to stop the Nortryptoline and put her on Risperidone. Im concerned with the side effects I have been reading. The Amytryptoline/Nortryptoline works just fine but the doctor says Medicaire does not like these 2 drugs and will fine him if he doesn't get her off them. But she has never been diagnosed Bipoler, Psychophrenic or anything.

Hello,

It is atypical antipsychotic drug used for bipolar disorder or mood disorder or mental disorders. But it is difficult to comment on that with out examination of the patient and without not knowing history. Please consult another psychiatrist opening regarding starting of risperidone. Please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
