Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 66 year old female who had back fusion surgery four months ago. My surgeon recommends daily walking, it is both painful and difficult to achieve. I have signed up for swimming lessons to compensate for the walking. Is this a good idea or is it too soon?
You have to taper your physical activities after fusion surgery. Swimming is not recommended at this stage, you have to strengthen your back by walking and graded weight-bearing. Consult a physiatrist and he will direct you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
