Is It Safe To Play Sports From Second Week Of Laparoscopic Appendectomy?

Hi, I was wondering when I can begin golfing...I had a laparoscopic appendectomy 2 weeks ago (acute appendicitis). I was told no weight lifting for 6 weeks but I could run, bike, use elliptical etc. I feel great and am a 42 YO male. I m sure putting and chipping would be ok, just want to know when I can begin swinging normally, thank you for your time.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It is best to check with your surgeon or physician for specific recommendations for your recovery, as it can vary from person to person. It is recommended to avoid any strenuous activity involving twisting or straining the abdominal muscles for at least six weeks after a laparoscopic appendectomy. This would include activities such as golf swings. It is best to start with light exercises and gradually increase the intensity and duration as you feel comfortable.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
