So an HPV infection that is found today will most likely not be there a year or two from now. Genital Hpv types particularly types 16 and 18 may also be responsible for early cancerous cell changes which later on may lead to invasive cervical cancers and therefore the need to monitor for these cell changes via Pap smears.
