Is It Safe To Have Progesterone Soft Gelatin Capsules During Pregnancy?

hi doctor , my wife had a miscarriage in the 3rd month this year.. . she is again pregnant after a gap of 2 months( did a pregnancy test today) . the doctor prescribed Progesterone Soft gelatin capsules 200 mg for 15 days ... besides Human chorionic gonadotrophin injections every week for 4 weeks .. my wifes age is 38 and nursing our 2 yr old son . Is these medications age related and miscarriage related ... what would be the reason the doctor would prescribe the meds ... other than the earlier miscarriage we have had ?

Hi,
I understand your concern.
3rd month abortions are mostly due to deficient progesteron & weak placenta.
* Your doctor has prescribed to prevent such mishap( abortion) again, till placenta is formed & working well.
* there is no harm/ rather it is essential for prevention of abortion this time.
- The medication should be continued 15 days past risk zone.
- At 38 years pregnancy does need hormonal support for healthy fetal nourishment.
_ In late pregnancy Tripple guard test / chromosomal analysis is usually advised to exclude fetal abnormality.
- other medications like folic acid pills/ vitamin E supplements/ pyridoxin pills. are indicated along with it.
