Is It Normal To Vomit If Rice Gone In Wrong Pipe?

Last night I was eating field peas and rice and it went down the wrong pipe.. I couldnt breathe and I was afraid.. Nor could I talk but my friend was hitting me on the back.. after that I could breathe but I wasnt fine until I vomited.. I coughed until I threw up.. Is that normal
