Is It Normal To Have Swelling In Abdomen After Breaking Ribs?
My mother broke four ribs in a head on car crash five days ago. Her stomach is very swollen now, she looks four to five months pregnant. The swelling is in the front of her belly (like a pregnant lady) and not on the sides as much. I'm worried about inernal bleeding/her stomach filling with blood. Is this kind if swelling normal for broken ribs? Thank you.

It is not usual for broken ribs to cause such massive swelling. There are chances that it can be hematoma or swelling due to muscle trauma. I would recommend you to get X ray of chest and along with that sonography of abdomen. till than she can take tramadol and ice application.
