Is It Normal To Have Bitter Taste In Mouth While On Antibiotics?

I m currently taking clarithromycin and amoxicillin for a pylori infection. On my second day I experienced a bitter taste in my mouth, is that normal? Also how long until I start feeling better? Oh and can I take my pre workout while taking these antibiotics.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to Health Care Magic Team.

Understanding your concern about your health.
The condition what you have explained is totally normal in case of antibiotics Sometimes, antibiotics alter your sense of taste. A change in the body's ability to sense tastes is called dysgeusia. Antibiotics can make food taste different, or they can cause a metallic, salty, or bitter taste in your mouth. Usually the taste changes are temporary and go away when you stop taking the medicine.
You can get rid of that bitter taste by having chewing gum( they increase salivary secretions ) and by taking some probiotics ( they increase healing process )
Although It is safe to use supplements with antibiotics because they do not have any side effects but sometimes they reduce the effectiveness of antibiotics

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
