Is It Normal For The IV Site To Be Swollen After Removal?
i was treated over the weekend for rhabdomyolosis. I still have numbing and pins & needles in my left arm, which i understand is not abnormal since i ve only been removed from hospital for 3 days. I am concerned about my right arm (elbow & inner tricep area). This is the arm where the IV port was hooked up to. In the described areas, there seems to be a lot of excess fat &/or swelling... it s twice the size as this area on my left side. Does this seem normal to you? Please advise.
I understand your concern. The probable cause of the swelling is part of the IV fluids escaping out of the vein into which they were administered. This would normally get absorbed in a few days. If you find redness, warmth or tenderness or if the swelling increases instead of gradually decreasing, you would require to see the doctor. There is a possibility of infection of the fluid collection or formation of a blood clot in the vein. If you have further query, I am available. Hope you get well soon. Dr. Noble Zachariah
