Is It Normal For Redness And Swelling Around The Abrasions On The Shin?

I have three abrasions on my left shin which I got 7 days ago while using a spin bike. Is it normal for there to be redness around the site? It is slightly swollen, there is no pus or foul odor. AFTER GETTING UP FROM REST,when I hang my feet and try to walk it hurts. Is this normal?

Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

Redness, swelling and increased pain are an indication that there is a possibility of bacterial infection as a result of wound contamination.

If I was the treating doctor I would have advised an empirical oral antibiotic for a week OR 10 days (My choice of oral antibiotic would have been Amoxycillin 500mg in combination with clavulanic acid 125 mg, thrice daily, for a week OR Cephalexin 500ng thrice daily OR Cefadroxil 500mg twice daily, for a week). That would take care of the infection.

n OTC topical antibacterial e.g 2% mupirocin ointment can be applied twice daily over the affected area.
