Is It Normal For A 92-year-old To Show Symptoms Of Depression, Weakness And Low Appetite?

Hi, my elderly aunt of 92 just had an endoscopy. Once coming home from the hospital, she is dealing with depression, being very lithergic and no interest to do anything or much of an appetite. Is this normalforsomeoneher age and how long will this behavior last?

Hello,

At this age due to any kind of illness, it's very commonly seen that people feel depressed, anxious and weak.

Even after doing any kind of diagnostic tests like endoscopy even young people go through such phase and your aunt is 92 years old, so give her some time to relax and cope with her current physical state.

If this continues for weeks, then I would suggest you visit your doctor and talk about it.

He might advice you to take her to a psychiatrist or a counsellor where approriate steps will be taken to know whats the cause behind it and if needed different therapies might be used as per her age to improve her symptoms.

I would say be her support as old age is like entering into childhood again where a lot of care and love helps to cope with any kind of illness.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
