Is It Compulsory To Have Intercourse For 10 Days While Planning For A Baby When I Have Irregular Periods?
hello doctor. its been 9 months that i got married. we are planning for a baby. since my period cycle is not regular, some times it is 40 days, some times it is 30 days.. day before yesterday went to doctor. she advised to have intercourse from 10th day of my periods to 20th day. my question is, is it compulsory to have intercourse for 10 days? it is not enough to have intercourse for 8 days? because i will leave to my native due to that i cant completely have intercourse for all 10 days. plz do help me

As you are having irregular cycle the calendar method for ovulation prediction may not be accurate but still you can use. Ovulation usually occurs about 14 days before the start of new cycle and your fertile window is 5 days leading up to ovulation plus the day of ovulation and the day after ovulation. Hence, for a 40 day cycle you will be fertile during day 21 to day 28 and for a 30 day cycle your fertile period will be from day 9 to day 17.
You can have contact during the fertile period every day or even every alternate day whichever is convenient for you. You can also follow other methods to detect ovulation using an ovulation detection kit which is available in pharmacies / online and also by following cervical mucus pattern (secretion becomes watery clear and stretchy).
