Hi, i am almost 35 weeks pregnant, and went to the doctors on monday as my legs have been really itchy, the midwife did a blood test. I have rang back for my results today and they have asked me to come in for another blood test next week as the alkeline levels are high. Should i be worried??

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi, I have gone through your question. Increased alkaline phosphate along with itching in legs in the third trimester of pregnancy is suggestive of obstetric cholestasis, in which the liver enzymes are deranged because of hormonal disturbances in pregnancy.
You need to be started on drugs for relieving the cholestasis and to improve the liver enzyme values. You need to get your liver function test done weekly to see the improvement. Moreover, you should get ultrasound done to assess the biophysical profile and well being of the fetus every 2 weekly till delivery.
I would suggest you to consult an OBGYN specialist for complete management.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
