Is Hand Tremor A Symptom Of Essential Tremors?

I am a 61 year old female and have have had shaky hands for the past 20 years or so. I have no other symptoms and I am otherwise in very good health. My father had the same thing and towards the end of his life his hands were very shaky. I also have two sisters who have the same symptoms. Could this be essential tremors or something more serious?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello thank you for writing us here.
Tremors are quite common at age above 50 or 60. Essential tremors and other serious types of tremors appear with association of feeling own heartbeat, significant weight loss, loss of appetite or insomnia.
And the symptoms are quite severe. Its more likely to be physiological.

Best regards,
Dr Gunjan
