My wife informed me that she is giving practin syrup for my 2. Year old son...he seems to be not eating properly n after giving the syrup, he seems to taking food.....I am worried that it s inducing hungryness rather than naturally occurring one....I strongly believe we should eat when we are hungry n not to eat if we don t feel hungry...plz advice if there are any negative risk to giving such syrup ?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is not safe. You can go for his de-worming and let the child be active. He will naturally feel hungry. The drug mentioned is anti-histaminic and that has an effect of increased appetite. It is correct that one should eat when he is hungry.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashok Kumar Dash
