Is Difficulty To Respond In A Diabetic Patient A Concern?

We had a very difficult time waking my mother from nap this afternoon. It took over 5 minutes calling her name, rubbing her arm....with no response. Breathing was deep. When she finally woke, she says she heard us...was trying to respond but couldn t. Mom is 84, lives alone in assisted living, and is diabetic. Is this normal?
