Is Dark And Red Skin Color In A Premature Baby Normal?

Hi my baby was born 2 weeks premature, she just made one week.. When she was born her skin color was red and dark.. Both of my other two children were born with really light fair skin but they were also born full term.. Is there a possibility her skin color will continue to change more fair once she is the age of her due date? Or is this her skin color? Please advise, thanks!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is quite common among premature infants.
It is because the epithelial maturation is incomplete in them.
Nothing to worry and it will settle by itself.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
