Is Consuming Raw Rice And Slate Pencils Harmful During Pregnancy?

hi Dr.Samuel i m nine month my LMP is 8th march 2012,i have itching problem some time i feel very uncomfortable and most of the time i having craving for raw rice,slate pencils .is it harmful for child?i am very much worried about it.please help me.

I have gone through your question and I understood your problem.
We in medical terms call it PICA.Unfortunately, pica cravings can cause serious harm to your baby. Eating non-food items can actually prevent your body from absorbing the proper minerals and nutrients. This could mean that your baby is not receiving the proper nutrition, increasing his risk for a variety of complications, including low birth weight, preterm labor, and stillbirth.Thank you.
