Is Colonoscopy Advisable For Anal Discoloration?

Hi there, I am 36 years old woman and I noticed that the colour @my anus turned from pink to dark purple in the last 4 months. No pain but I d say more protuberances then before. Is this an indication of a bigger problem? Should I get a colonoscopy done? Thanks, ND

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Colonoscopy is done to visualise the lesions in the rectal canal and colon, which is situated deep inside.
It is not indicated in your case where you have noticed a slight discolouration around the anal opening.
All you require is clinical examination of the anal region and per rectal examination to find out what could be the cause for it.
Kindly consult Surgeon in this regard for proper evaluation and appropriate management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
