Is Chlamydia A Sexually Transmitted Disease?

Hi Dr. Rynne,

So today one of my past partners told me he tested positive for Chlamydia. We did have some unprotected sex; I'm on the pill but sometimes we didn't use condoms. I haven't been tested yet, but he told me Planned Parenthood would still give me pills to take to clear up the infection. Our first time having unprotected sex with no condoms was 8 months ago, which he probably still had the infection before we got together. So I guess my question is how likely would I be to have Chlamydia and should I take the antibiotics for it even though I have not been tested yet? Plus I am taking a couple other prescription medication. And I know in serious cases of untreated chlamydia it can cause females to become infertile, what would be the likelihood of that happening to be assuming I contracted it 7-8 months ago?

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
Yes chlamydia is a common sexually transmitted disease. Chlamydia could easily spread through unprotected vaginal sex. Most of woman are not even known they have chlamydia infection as it may not cause any symptoms for years. Therefore you should not ignore the possibility for chlamydia as your previous partner with whom you had unprotected intercourse is diagnosed with it
Chlamydia infection can be effectively cured with antibiotics. If left untreated, It can cause serious reproductive and other health problems. Therefore you should get firstly checked for chlamydia & then if tested positive it could easily be treated with antibiotics. Next time use condoms while having sex with partner whose STD(sexual transmitted diseases) status is not known to you.

Refer to a gynaecologist
Hope this information helps
