Is Breastfeeding Safe While On Cephalexin And Diclofenac?
I have baby girl 7 month old she gat brestfed but my wife got eye infaction now her medecin dr gave her two medicine frist one is antibiotic ( 1) cephalexin 500 mg capsule 3 times a day (2) diclofenac sod 100mg sa tab 2 times a day . so my question is can she gat brest milk yes or not ?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Cephalexin is an antibiotic, which is acceptable to be used during breastfeeding. Limited information indicates that intake of maternal doses of cephalexin up to 1 gram shows low concentration in breast milk, that is not expected to cause any ill effects in breastfed infants. Data on excretion of diclofenac into milk is limited. Considering Diclofenac has a short half-life and little glucuronide metabolite formation, many reviewers consider diclofenac to be acceptable during breastfeeding. Hence, you can continue to feed the baby while on these prescribed medications. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
