Is Bleach Fumes Inhalation Harmful During A Pregnancy?
...I was washing some equipment with bleach outside and my wife who is 37 weeks due with our baby got bleach fumes in her noise and eyes, she was on the porch and right away went inside i wasn t using much but wondering if were ok, we been trying as much for her to be away from anything like that just didn t know the wind blew it down near her
If your wife is OK and she can breathe normally and did not have any damage to her lungs or eyes her exposure to the fumes is not harmful. The bleach could only affect the baby if enough got into her system to poison her, like by drinking it.
Women who clean for a living and use cleaning products are not at any additional pregnancy risk. Anyone who uses these products (including you) should wear gloves and eye protection and try to clean in a well-ventilated area to avoid buildup of fumes.
So I encourage you not to worry, and good luck with the rest of the pregnancy.
Sincerely, Dr. Brown
