Is Biopsy Required For Red Indentation On Left Side Of Upper Gums?
I have a defined red indentation on the left side of my upper gums. It starts at my teeth and goes up spanning three teeth. It bleeds and is sensitive when I brush. The dentist did a cancer screening with the blue light and everything else looks good but he says he hasn't seen anything like it. He says other then one cavity at the bottom my mouth seems healthy. He's referring me to an oral surgeon for a biopsy. Is that necessary?
As per your complain red indentation on gums which is sensitive to touch and bleeds needs not to be cancer as it can be due to infection and inflammation of gums causing the symptoms which you are experiencing.
It can also be due to apthous ulcer or a large canker sore.
It can also be due to any mechanical injury to gums like vigerous tooth brushing or any hard food stuff which accidently can cause gum injury.
You can take a second opinion from an ORAL PATHOLOGIST so that before going for a biopsy you will have an idea that it is needed or not..
A clinical evaluation can give a better diagnosis before any pathological investigation although a biopsy can be done to rule out any non cancerous condition too and not always cancer.
Hope your query is solved..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
