Is Beta-blocker Advisable To A Lung Cancer Patient?

My brother has pacemaker. Because his heart rate is over 100 with pacemaker. His doctor prescribed beta blocker for him. He takes beta-blocker every day. Since he had history of lung lobectomy and radiation for lung cancer, he has some degree of lung fibrosis. He has short of breath when climbing stairs. He coughs often, frequent catch cold and allergy to some kind dusts/materials which cause mild asthma. Should he take beta-blocker.? Is any other medication that can replace beta-blocker to slow his heart rate? I deeply appreciate your answer and suggestions. Thanks so much for your help on this matter. General & Family Physician 's  Response
as he has a history of lobectomy , lung radiation ,lung fibrosis he has a limited functioning lung capactity. according to your descreption he has a history allergy and asthma. so beta blocker can cause whezzing and diffficulty in breathing
.if really needed to control heart rate digoxin may be suitable for him. so consult a cardiologist. he will asses his heart rhythm and rate, if need to control heart rate he will start most suitable drug.
