Is Applying Triamcinolone Acetonide On The Eyelids Safe?

My general practitioner prescribed Triamcinolone Acetonide cream USP 0.1% strength, to help clear up a very itchy, red and painful eczema or rash I had on my upper and lower eyelids up to the brow bone. Is this particular cream safe for the eyes in thin applications? It says Not For Ophthalmic Use on the tube

It is ok to apply Triamcinolone ointment on the eyelids. However, please be careful not to get the ointment into the eyes.
