Is Antibiotics Necessary To Treat Nasal Congestion, cough And Itchy Throat?

Hi. I started getting a cold 6 days ago. I don t have a fever, but my throat is still sore and I am coughing a lot. Not really coughing anything up, more of a dry, itchy throat. I know that it can take at least a week for some of these symptoms to run its course. I haven t really been congested, more of a runny nose and I feel like I have drainage from my nose down my throat. I figured that is why my throat is still sore. Anyway, went to the walk in clinic today, just was hoping for something for the cough. He ended up prescribing Zithromax, albuterol inhaler, prednisone and tessalon. He walked out of the room after he examined me and never came back, plus he never said he heard wheezes, so I assumed my lungs were clear. The nurse just came in with all of these prescriptions and I m thinking what for? Honestly, I don t think I need to take an antibiotic........ He didn t order a chest X-ray or a throat swab, so it s not like there is a known bacterial infection. Is it ok if I don t take the antibiotic.
