Is An Ear Infection With Blood Discharge And Hearing Loss A Serious Problem?
I have had an ear infection for several months, there has been a very fowl smelling liquid coming from my ear. I was seen by my PCP & he put me on antibiotics which didn t clear up the infection, he gave me a different antibiotic which also failed to work. lastnight blood started coming from my ear, also a lot of pressure & I can hardly hear from that ear. Should I go to an emergency room to have my ear checked? is this something that can be dangerous in any way?
As per your complain the symptoms of fowl smelling liquid coming from ear with blood discharge and pressure inside the ear and loss of hearing seems to be due to severe Infection leading to blocked Eustachian tube and fluid behind the eardrum.. There are also chances of perforation in the eardrum..
I would suggest you to consult an ENT Physician and get evaluated..
A course of higher antibiotics like Augmentin and decongestant nasal drops along with antibiotic eardrops can be advised..
In case if it does not improve then surgical drainage of ears can be done followed by placement of pressure equalisation tubes..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
