Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is An MRI Advisable To Diagnose The Malignancy Of A Nasal Polyp?
I am scheduled for sinus surgery. Alll my right sided sinuses are blocked. I also have a growth is being assumed to be a polyp but that is unclear. If is a malignancy an MRI would be done and a different approach taken Because the probability of a benign polyp,an MRI will not be done. Do you agree.
I would like to tell you that an MRI is done to know various factors like the location of the polyp, it's extent etcetera. It's a diagnosing tool and not a treatment. So doing an MRI does not depend on whether the polyp is benign or malignant. It will help to diagnose your condition properly and also help to decide the further course of action.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nazma.amman
