Is Adenoid Issues, Related With Viral Infection, Cough And Breathing Difficulty?

My daughter is 3 years old and since she has had a viral infection back in October, haas been struggling with coughingg at night. It does get better, but just lately it is getting lots worse. Last night she was coughing about 30 mins, we tried cough mixture and her inhaler, which the Dr gave last time we went about the cough, to see if it would help. Unfortunately nothing helped. She struggles to breathe through her nose, but its defintiely more pronounced at the moment. She has never had any ear infections or tonsilitus or anything and is reasonably well. Would this be an adenoid problem or something else?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

After viral infection the pharyngitis and nose passages remain inflamed for more time. There can be allergic bronchitis or asthma. Adenoids and tonsils too get enlarged and discharge more fluid that is accumulated in throat to cause irritation and coughing is natural instinct to remove such things hence the coughing.

Since cough syrup alone is not helping it is better to have your child be examined by a pediatrician or an ENT Surgeon. Medicines will be as advised by wither of these Specialists. Identify the things that cause more coughing and allergy and avoid these altogether.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
