Is A Split Tooth Post Aclasta Infusion A Cause For Concern?

I had an aclasta infusion mid January (my 2nd) and today I split my tooth down the middle. I was having a bacon buttie of all things. It is quite painful. Can I wait until after the Easter break before going to the dentist? I haven t had any pain relief as yet

Hi,

Aclasta (zoledronic acid) is a medication used to treat or prevent osteoporosis, which is a condition where bones become weak and brittle. Aclasta works by reducing the activity of cells that break down bone tissue.

Tooth fractures or cracks are typically caused by injury, decay, or normal wear and tear. Aclasta infusion is not known to directly cause tooth fractures or cracks, but it may have weakened the teeth in some people. However, it is unlikely that the tooth fracture is an immediate cause for concern.

That being said, it is important to have a dental exam and appropriate treatment as soon as possible to prevent any further damage or infection. Waiting until after the Easter break is not recommended, especially if the pain is severe. It is advisable to seek immediate dental care if you are experiencing any pain, swelling, or bleeding.

It is also important to inform your dentist and healthcare provider about your history of aclasta infusions, as this helps in determining the best course of treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
