Is A Rabies Vaccination Shot On The Arm Advisable?

Are rabies vaccines ineffective when injected in buttocks? I have taken 4 out of 5 and all of them were injected in buttocks.1 is for 10 days later.Should i just ask the doctor for the next one to be injected in my arm or should i retake some/all of the earlier injections?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic Forum.
I have gone through your Query & I really appreciate your concern about the problem you are facing.

As a physician I would like to tell you that The deltoid region is ideal for the inoculation of these vaccines. Gluteal region is not recommended because the fat present in this region retards the absorption of antigen and hence impairs the generation of optimal immune response.

Thus, I would like to reschedule a visit to your attending physician or any Govt. hospital in that matter, if you are from India to again determine the category of your wound and if there is need to take a repeat course of the Rabipur vaccine.

Thanks for Trusting & Posting your Query on this forum.
Hope this will help you. Feel free to ask any further question.
Have a nice Day.

Regards,
Dr.Abhijeet
