Is A Discectomy Effective In The Treatment Of Pain Behind The Lower Leg?

Hello im due for a discectomy in about 4 weeks from now, & i wanted to know how long is the procedure & will it benefit me as far as the pain in my lower back of leg which radiates to my hip down to my whole left side. & is it a out patient procedure.
