Is Zonegran Better Than Lamictal In The Treatment Of Epilepsy?

I am epileptic and I take Lamictal and its causing migraines and nausea every single morning, my doctor wants to change them and I was thinking of taking zonegran? What do you think? She wasnted to try topamax or carbamazitine and those have A LOT of CRAZY side effects. My friend is also epileptic and takes Zonegran and she says it works wonders for her. Ive tried keppra as well but none are working and the Lamictal works on the seizure aspect but cannot live the way I am, I just need help on to what you think would be a good switch from lamtical to zonegran?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Zonegran is used only for partial seizures and in combination with other antiepileptic drugs. I think you can try both, Zonegran and Lamictal ( Lamictal dose should be lowered to avoid adverse effects.) if yours are partial seizures. Discuss with your Neurologist about these issues.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
