Is WBC Count Of 1700 A Cause For Concern?

what does it mean when my white blood count is 1700? I just had a 6 cm cyst removed as well as my ovary and fallopian tube removed. It was an emergency surgery because the cyst had twisted and cut off circulation to my ovary, and was causing serious pain. I have also been diagnosed with endometriosis.

Hi,

The white blood count of 1700 is on a lower side, however, to know the cause would like to know a few details such as - this count is noted only on one occasion or multiple occasions, secondly when was the surgery done, any medications you are taking, thirdly are you having any bleeding and lastly what are the other parameters of your blood counts - are they within normal limits? Because this could be an anticipated effect of the treatment you have received.

Since as a doctor we treat the patient and not the report, if I were your treating doctor I would like to know the details mentioned above and then take things further. If everything is normal, then an occasional WBC count of 1700 is of no significance, however, if the counts remain constantly below 1500 then its a matter of concern and require meticulous evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
