Is Opana A Good Alternative Of Oxycodone?

I am on the Fentanyl patch, 25mcg every 2 days as my main source and for hreakthru, 15mg of Oxycodone. My doctor is changing my 15mg of oxycodone, 5 times, every 4 to 6 hours as needed, to 5mg of Opana, 4 and 1/2 times every 4 to 6 hours as needed. He is making this change because I am not getting the quality is relief I had gotten for the 7 years l had been on it. I had it upped from 10 to 15mg a year and a half ago. My doftor said that even though Oxycodone and Opana are both from the same family, namely both are Opoid, your body becomes inmune to the one and tneeds a change to another strand. He said that Opana is 2 to 3 times stronger than Oxycodone. Before making switcswitch, is this right? What is the scale for the 5mg of Opana?

Hello,

Yes, your doctor is right. Opana is having Oxymorphone.
It is much more powerful and effective as compare to Oxycodone.
If you use any drug for longer duration, your body becomes tolerant from it. So the desired painkiller effect is reduced. Hence, the change in drug is needed to achieve desired pain relief. So change to Opana. No harm in it. It will give you more symptomatic relief.

Hope I have answered your query.
