Hello. I work in a hospital as a respiratory therapist, do I am exposed to all types of patents and the germs that come with it. After multiple bouts of sore throat s/p strep, I was sent to an ENT. He cultured my tonsils and found klebsiella. The PA called me and prescribed me Bactrum. I am wondering if I am contagious and if I should be concerned that I have have chest pain when I get the colds and sore throats. Should I also consult a pulmonologist?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Klebsiella infection of the respiratory tract can spread through air to people coming in contact with the patient. You could also give the infection to others till complete eradication of the bacteria from your respiratory tract. If you do have chest pain, cough, purulent sputum, difficulty in respiration, you must consult a Pulmonologist.
