Dear Sir, Hi & Welcome.

Yes, Flomax is better than Terazosin.

Flomax (Tamsulosin) and Terazisin are alpha adrenergic receptor blockers work by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and the bladder. This helps to relieve symptoms of prostatic enlargement such as difficulty in beginning the flow of urine, weak stream, and the need to urinate often or urgently and hence commonly prescribed in the treatment of benign prostatic enlargement.

The most important side effects of alpha blockers are dizziness and postural hypotension (low BP after sitting or standing up).

Tamsulosin is highly selective for prostatic smooth muscle and hence less likely to cause the side effects as seen with other alpha blockers such as Terazosin.

Therefore Flomax is better than Terazosin.

Proscar (Finasteride) is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor and is also indicated for the treatment benign prostatic hyperplasia along with an alpha blocker.

However, it is associated with certain side effects such as impotence, loss of interest in sex, or trouble having an orgasm; abnormal ejaculation; swelling in your hands or feet.

Since you have already undergone Transurethral needle ablation (TUNA) 10 years ago and it seemed to be ineffective in controlling your symptoms.

Continue taking Flomax as prescribed by your doctor.

If you do not get enough relief from the treatment then I would advise you to undergo minimal invasive therapy Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) or Laser therapy which involves laser enucleation of the prostate that removes all the prostate tissue blocking urine flow and prevent regrowth of tissue. The removed tissue can be examined for prostate cancer and other conditions.

Wishing you best of your health.
