Is Cozaar Safe To Be Taken Instead Of Amlodipine For High BP?

I am presently taking amlodipine besylate for high blood pressure. I have heard that calcium channel blockers are not as good as other medications. I have been taking this 10mg daily for 25 years. I recently read some articles on calcium channel blockers that suggests I change to another type of medication--maybe Cozaar. Are there problems with calcium channel blockers?

Calcium channel blockers (CCBs) are very good medications for lowering blood pressure. Amlodipine sometimes causes swelling in the feet for which I personally never prescribe more than 5 mg daily. Cozaar is a class of medication that is called angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) and are very good at lowering blood pressure, just like CCBs are. If you have certain medical conditions such as diabetes, you should be on ARBs or ACE inhibitors. So, you should talk to you physician and discuss different options that are the best specifically for you.
