Is Chondroitin Effective In Preventing Arthritis?

Would you recommend taking chondroitin/glucosamine as a preventative rather than as a curative for arthritis? I started taking this 30 years ago and my husband and I do not have any problems with our joints. I have my children doing the same and they are in the early 50 s because my son is very active as a runner and biker. I don t want them to develop joint problems. Good idea?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The idea looks good, however, it cannot be recommended as there is no scientific evidence that it may reduce the incidence of arthritis. And this may be a huge burden putting everyone on the drug to prevent a disease which may or may not occur.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman, General & Family Physician
