Is Cephalexin 500 Mg The Right Medicine For Urinary Tract Infection?
I have an uranairy tract infection and started taking cephalexin 500 mg. I came across these other prescriptions Nitrofurantoin Mcr 100 mg and Sulfamethoxazole-Tmp ds should I be taking these instead? HISTORY: I was in the hospital in July 2015 because my infection would not go away with c pro or cephalexin. They found 2 kidney stones at that time which I still have. I think they have been there for some time.
The choice of antibiotic for urinary tract infection or any infection for that matter depends on the kind of microorganisms(there are different antibiotics recommended for Gram positive and Gram negative organisms, and also for others like Pseudomonas and Enterococcus) isolated from the specimen. When a specimen is sent for culture and sensitivity, not only the identification of the organism is done but also the sensitivity of different antibiotics to it is checked. Please go for a Urine C/S(culture and sensitivity) , it'll help understand whether Cephalexin is the right medicine for you. As for the kidney stones, please see a nephrologist and get the radiological investigation done.
